If you’ve ever paid for a ticket to tour one design firm show house, you’ll be glad to know this: soon, you’ll be able to walk through four for free.
True, most of the four aren’t as large or old as, for example, Kansas City’s Symphony Designers’ Showhouse. But these brand new state-of-the-art spaces will inspire you with the delicious designs and details reserved usually for homes featured in Architectural Digest and Elle Décor.
Thanks to a thriving partnership between Rodrock Homes and Twigs Interiors, the four style-laden models will be ready for walk-through beginning on September 28th, the first day of the Parade of Homes. “Together with Twigs, we simply wanted to give Kansas City the top models the likes of which they’d never seen before,” says Brian Rodrock, Rodrock Homes’ building and development CEO.
Located at Summerwood and Summerwood Estates, buyers are seeking out these homes for a number of reasons, says Michelle Capek, Summerwood Community Manager. “Their South Johnson County location, resort style community amenities, hard-to-find expanded lots and their Blue Valley school district locale, their privacy-offering mature trees and their optional walkout basements make them a rare find,” adds Capek.
But that’s not all that’s rare. Committed to their “Beyond Beige” reputation, the Rodrock/Twigs team has injected the newest colors and the latest materials into Summerwood’s four-model row opening in just a few weeks.
“You’ll see the colors you love, just tweaked a bit,” explains Twigs’ Owner Lisa Mermis. “For example, that green you like? You might see a touch of Kelly in it now, or perhaps some Jade.”
Latest finishes, like coveted honed marble countertops and herringbone wood floor inlays complement durable and cutting-edge distressed gray floors.
Graphic metallics and Lucite recall old Hollywood glamour, while sweeping staircases surrounded by ebony wood floors only emphasize the grandeur of a two-story fireplace. “In the past, the Midwest has been the last part of the country to adopt the latest in design,” says Kat Sybert, Twigs’ design expert. “Now, we want our area to be a forerunner.”
To that end, Twigs designers travel across the country and internationally for markets and inspiration. The result? “It’s a collection of top model homes that will completely surprise our guests, in a very good way,” says Angela Fitzgerald, Summerwood Manager, who loves the winning combination of fabulous floor plans paired with stunning design.
But while Rodrock and Twigs delight in inspiring their clients with the newest possibilities in luxury living, individual homebuyers’ tastes are what’s most important to both companies. Any of Summerwood’s four model plans–and many additional plans viewable at rodrockhomes.com–can be customized free of charge with the help of a designated Rodrock Homes’ builder concierge and designated Twigs’ designer. From custom basements to wheelchair accessible hallways, one-of-a-kind moldings to specialized Phillip Jeffries wall coverings, the team has it covered.
“We get to know our clients and their homes so well that they often ask us to help out with extras like furniture, draperies, and accessories too,” says designer Katy Cassaw.
Stacy Farr and husband Aaron bought a Twigs-decorated Hepburn II 2-story. “As soon as we walked in, we just knew,” says Stacy, who loved the home’s rustic maple hardwoods, open and light-filled floor plan, and custom wainscoting.
The Farrs also loved the location. “We knew we wanted to be at Blue Valley Southwest schools,” explains Stacy. “We looked at nearby neighborhoods like Mills Farm and Bluestem but felt that Summerwood was the most up and coming neighborhood in the area.”
The community’s new one-of-a-kind clubhouse and pool features natural stone, relaxing waterfalls, and will have personal cabanas with flat screens. A contained splash park for younger children and waterslides for older kids make fun for all. Nature trails, a private fishing lake, a playground and sport court will complete the community’s amenities.
But when it’s time to get away, there’s no better place than the exclusive Summerwood Estates section of the community. Larger treed home sites, prime lake views and cul-de-sac settings give the enclave a preserve-like feel.
But just minutes from I-69 and the best shopping and restaurants in Johnson County, Summerwood Estates is still in the middle of the action.
While Estates buyers can still choose an existing expanded home plan, Rodrock Homes also custom-builds one-of-a-kind homes depending on buyers’ visions for their abode. And even if you aren’t in the market for a one-of-a-kind custom build, you’ll still find the latest, cutting-edge one-of-a-kind offerings at Summerwood.
Starting on the first day of the Fall Parade of Homes, September 28th, Summerwood’s four complete, innovative models should be your first stop. The only question? Whether you want to wait that long to check out still untouched home sites at one of Kansas City’s most energized, inventive communities.
