A brand new home designed and decorated exactly the way you want–it’s one of the best reasons to choose new construction over resale.
And while starting with a blank slate is exciting, designing a new home means you’ll need to answer a few questions. What style of home do you want? Which choices best express your style? How do you select between materials? And, can that selection process really be fun?
Fortunately for Rodrock Homes’ buyers, finding answers to questions like these is easier than ever before. In partnership with Kansas City’s award-winning Twigs Interiors, the company recently opened a showroom where homebuyers can design their dream homes with step-by-step help from dedicated Twigs’ designers.
One Size Does NOT Fit All
“It’s a one-on-one environment where you can visualize and custom-craft your home,” says Rodrock Homes CEO Brian Rodrock. The cozy space, complete with warm grey walls and original tin ceilings, is located in Twigs’ retail boutique along old Overland Park’s quaint main street at 8012 Santa Fe Drive.
“We want each of our clients to have a relaxing boutique experience,” says Twigs’ Owner Lisa Mermis, who notes that a kitchen with an icemaker and wine cooler plus soothing music adds to the showroom’s no-stress ambience. Many clients say their experience designing their homes with Twigs wasn’t only low-stress, it was fun.
Rodrock Homes and Twigs offer homebuyers more design options and innovative new materials than anyone in the industry.
“In the homebuilding industry, ‘custom’ used to mean picking paint colors and countertops,” says Jeff Gifford, Chief Operating Officer of Rodrock Homes. “With the Twigs showroom our buyers enjoy customization at a whole new level,” Gifford explains. “They can pick doors that are custom-milled, Twigs’ hand-mixed paint and stain colors, artistic tile, and custom light fixtures you can’t get anywhere else.”
A Step by Step Process
To keep the selection process from overwhelming clients, Twigs employs a step-by-step process to help customers identify and translate their personal style into their surroundings.
First Twigs’ experts Katy Cassaw, Adrienne Molstad, Kat Sybert and Heather Braland collect information from client questionnaires, interviews, and “look books” filled with customers’ personal preferences.
The process helps a client pinpoint their unique style, even when that client includes both husband and wife. “We’re accustomed to finding common ground between two differing viewpoints,” explains Mermis. “The husband might want Colorado rustic, while the wife prefers a clean New England look.”
“Our job is to give this new look a visual vocabulary that can bring elements of both styles to their custom home. We try to integrate rather than eliminate,” adds the Twigs’ Owner.
Next, Twigs’ designers pull together everything—proposed paint colors, trim work, fabric, carpet and more.
“We want our customers have a sense of the overall design before it comes to fruition,” says Mermis. “We want them to know what their dream home will look and feel like before it’s complete.”
What Do People Think about it?
Rodrock Homes’ buyer Melissa Lovell says the process made designing her home faster and easier than expected. “It’s helps so much to be able to see everything together, because right away you can see what you like and eliminate what you don’t,” says Lovell. And even though clients receive one-on-one help choosing everything from drawer pulls to tile layouts, the service comes at no extra charge to qualifying Rodrock Homes buyers.
“Our customers really appreciate the personalized interaction they get with the Twigs’ designers,” says Jeff Reglin, Chief Marketing Officer of Rodrock Homes. “It’s just another way we try to go above and beyond for our homebuyers.”
Fitting All The Pieces Together
Twigs is known citywide for making bold use of color, texture, and shape in interiors that fit today’s lifestyles. Visits to national markets and travels abroad influence its designers’ cutting-edge creations. “We just returned from the Kravet showroom in Chicago,” says Mermis. “We saw loads of color.”
But perhaps nowhere is Twigs’ use of color more chicly demonstrated than inside Rodrock Homes’ newest models, located in its Summerwood and Wyngate communities. Available for touring seven days a week, models like Summerwood’s Larsen II put Twigs’ custom-mixed shades of crisp gray, citrine yellow, and deep cobalt on stunning display.
In addition to color, the firm’s signature mix of high and low design elements and furniture adorn Summerwood and Wyngate models too.
Nearly all of Twigs’ furnishings on display in the models are available for purchase in the company’s design boutique in Overland Park, where both new and resale homebuyers can find treasures to enhance their surroundings. Still, there’s something magical about designing and decorating a brand new home with Rodrock Homes and Twigs, says Mermis. “When you start with a blank slate, the possibilities are endless.”
